SLAM – Safety Leadership and Management / SLAM Refresh

SLAM is a three-day programme designed specifically for managers and supervisors in manufacturing. CARES - Championing And Recognising Excellence in Safety

Specifically developed for those in lynchpin supervisory roles in the manufacturing sector, this course goes beyond compliance to inspire a genuine commitment to safety. It engages colleagues in why they should CARE using real-life examples, open discussion, and reflection - encouraging them to see safety not just as a priority, but as a core value that should never shift. By connecting with the emotional and moral impact of safety incidents, delegates are challenged to take ownership and embed safety into everyday actions and decisions.

This session stress-tests a site’s readiness for emergency situations. A desktop or site-based exercise examines how site teams respond to unfolding events, focusing on decision-making and actions to support major incident readiness.

Contractor Management & Permit to Work

This course is for those who manage contractors and/or issue permits to work. It covers key elements of contractor control, including appraisal, approval, site induction, and on-site monitoring. Delegates will also learn how to review RAMS effectively. The permit to work section explores system structure, required details, roles and responsibilities, and types of permits used. Successful completion is assessed through practical application of the company’s permit to work process.

Machinery Safety & PUWER Training

This two-day course provides personnel responsible for PUWER assessments with the practical skills and knowledge to carry them out confidently. Day one covers the foundations of PUWER 1998 and BS EN ISO 13857, machinery safety principles, isolation and control measures, equipment selection, and inspection requirements. Day two focuses on applying these skills on site, with delegates completing PUWER and machinery safety assessments in a real-site setting.

Duration: 2 days

Isolation and Lock Out Training

This course helps delegates understand the critical importance of managing isolations safely and the consequences when they fail. It explores high-risk activities requiring permits and the hazards involved, with content tailored to the delegate’s role — for example, engineers may cover a wider range of engineering controls and permit processes, while other colleagues may focus on electrical and air isolations. Delegates will gain a step-by-step understanding of the isolation and lock off process, including identifying energy sources, dissipation, and verification. Where applicable, site specific procedures will be incorporated into the training.

DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) Awareness

This course introduces the principles of DSEAR and how explosive atmospheres can form in food and drink manufacturing environments. Delegates learn to identify dangerous substances, recognise ignition sources, understand hazardous area zoning and emergency procedures. Practical elements reinforce awareness of control measures and individual responsibilities in reducing risk in their workplace.

Who should attend: all colleagues working in areas where DSEAR-related risks exist, including those handling or exposed to flammable substances, vapours, or dusts

Fire Warden Training

Leaners will gain insight into fire safety principles and the role of fire wardens in maintaining a safe workplace. Delegates will gain confidence in carrying out their responsibilities, understand site-specific fire protection measures and emergency evacuation procedures, and learn how to monitor and support current fire safety standards and controls.

Moving and Handling Safely

This highly practical course helps all colleagues understand the risks of manual handling and how to reduce them through safe techniques and lifting aids. Demonstrations on the shop floor reinforces key principles, empowering delegates to handle tasks safely and confidently in their day-to-day roles.

Who should attend: all employees who require an understanding of what manual handling is and require training in effective lifting and handling techniques to reduce the potential for injury.

As a recognised IOSH training centre, we can deliver the nationally respected Managing Safely course for managers and supervisors across all industries.
